ZOINKS Managing Editor (aka Chief Bard/Bard Wrangler)

2012-2013
ZOINKS (“Zombie Outbreak Incident Neutralization & Kill Squad”) was an online zombie-apocalypse-themed Choose Your Own Adventure fitness game that blended real life activities with a text-based online narrative. I served as chief managing editor for an online zombie-apocalypse-themed Choose Your Own Adventure fitness game. I coordinated with a team of writers (Bards) and the group administrators to create a monthly web-based CYOA game wherein players challenged themselves physically and mentally in real life with workouts and activities based on choices they make as they navigated an unfolding narrative in which they played survivors of the zombie apocalypse. My job consisted of creating and editing monthly story lines with unique options and challenges for several different tiers/types of players (divided up based on preferred activity type of players). For example, player challenges might include doing specific physical activities to mimic in-game physical activities (based on their character type) then logging those activities for confirmation, doing research on a topic related to survival, or generating their own narrative to describe their in-game choices. I was also responsible for doing research related to the ongoing storyline, writing content, coordinating with and editing content contributed by my team of Bards, merging that disparate content into a seamless multi-branching narrative, adding markup to make the game interactively playable on our GoogleApp game engine, and uploading the content along with other associated files to the site.
